What is Not myself today about?
CONTENT WARNING: Depiction of Mental Health Struggles
Not Myself Today is a musical that Courtney wrote back in 2014 about battling depression and anxiety. The musical follows the intertwined lives of a group of high school students, particularly focusing on Amanda, who is struggling with depression, and her alter ego, Trista, who represents her negative thoughts and insecurities. As Amanda battles with her mental health, her friends, including Blake and Ezra, try to support her. However, when Ezra confides in a teacher about Amanda's struggles without her consent, it leads to a rift between them. Throughout the story, Amanda grapples with feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and isolation, exacerbated by Trista's constant presence. Eventually, with the help of her friends, family, therapy, and medication, Amanda begins to regain control of her life and find hope for the future. The musical explores themes of friendship, mental health, and the power of support systems in overcoming challenges.

Is there an age restriction on this production
The age restriction for this is ages 7-15. This is to give our younger students an opportunity to perform but also we heavily advise you read the information packet for warnings on the content of the musical as it depicts mental health struggles. It delivers a good message about getting help for mental health but still your discretion is advised.
What can involvement look like
Everyone who registers for this class will get a lead role in the musical, unless they'd prefer to just act as ensemble. This class is used to train younger performers so we will be working on a professional basis however your comfort for this production is important.
