mission STATEMENT

Courtney Fowler Performance Academy is committed to creating professional theatre experiences and multiple performance opportunities per season. CFPA is inclusive, neurodivergent-friendly and adaptive. We serve all people, and we believe the arts are for everybody. We offer volunteer and energy exchange programs to include all people in our community. Our mantra is "confidence, community, courage" and our work creates a safe, nonjudgemental space for our students to discover their authentic self and find the courage to display that confidently, with the support of an accepting community that celebrates uniqueness. Our students thrive in this environment to be the best they can be. We don't believe in a competitive environment for the arts: instead, we build up the individual, allow them to discover their autonomy through pedagogical practices, encourage them to think for themselves, and work that into creative expression on stage. We strive for our students to have an honest understanding of how professional theatre operates so they can be well equipped for future endeavours, in our local city and beyond. Our students learn to connect deeply to live music and theatre in a way that brings them joy. They love and appreciate participating in it because it fosters good character traits and skills that benefit their lives outside of the classroom in a positive way. As an individual, students participating in the arts foster empathy, honesty, autonomy, self-confidence, self-expression, charisma, intelligence, imagination, energy, introspection, exploration, resilience, stamina, self-discipline, dedication, determination, self-discovery, an understanding of human behaviour and interest in humanity. They work on developing the following skills: leadership, public speaking, social skills, team building, co-operation, work ethic, problem solving, organization, time management, ability to network, ability to self-reflect and developing an analytical mind. We strive for high teaching quality in class and on stage, a professional theatre experience, with supportive staff for the performers where they can thrive and focus on their own work.
