TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
written by aimee coles
I strive to create a body-positive and inclusive environment for students to feel comfortable, confident and free to challenge themselves in their own individual way.
I believe that nobody is ever at a place of 'all knowing' or is 'perfect' - constant growth and development is critical and will allow you to open up to new challenges and opportunities. Don't be afraid to be 'bad' at something new.
I encourage my students to full immerse themselves in movement without fear of judgement or error - make all the mistakes you need to grow.
I ask students to truly think about what they are doing and why they are dong it, allowing them to feel more rooted in their "story" they are working to tell through movement.
I stress to students to practice admiring and celebrating someone else's successes and strengths without questioning or undermining their own.
I encourage to try new styles of dance, no matter how difficult you may think they are! Take new classes, learn from different instructors, challenge yourself!
