teaching philosophy
My Teaching Philosophy - Nathan Mackey
Health. A healthy voice is the number one rule when it comes to performance. I think it is super important to help create a healthy sound by having a groundedness to yourself, by providing proper breath support, and most importantly by relaxing your body, not having it full of tension and pressure. Education. I strongly believe that an education in the arts, whether it is music or theatre, is extremely important to have in your life. I think it is a perfect way to free your soul, learn how to truly focus, and relieve stress. It can provide you with skills, such as discipline and confidence, that will take you through your everyday life. Passion. I believe that in order to be involved in the arts, you must have a love and passion that will drive you to work your hardest at whatever level you find yourself. Relationship. I believe in creating a personal relationship with each individual student, in order to facilitate their desires. Everyone learns differently and I believe it is extremely important to let each student express themselves through music and theatre, how they choose. I believe in listening to what my student has to say, so that they know their voice matters. Connection is key. Development. I believe that no matter your age, no matter how much experience you have, there is always room for growth. I believe that working with fellow musicians can allow you to continue growing as an artist in such an amazing way. Safety. I believe it is very important to create a safe environment for the students, I think it should be a place where you are encouraged and loved all while having great fun. No matter what your personality, I believe in creating a safe place for everyone to be their proudest self! Performance. I encourage students to perform as much as they can as I believe it is the best way to grow as a musician or actor. It can provide such a pleasurable feeling and I believe it is a huge way to gain confidence and skill. If you have passion, empathy, and an interest, being involved in a program like this, this is destined for you. I’d love to be a part of your journey: Let’s Sing! |
