about laura
As a shy young girl, music has allowed Laura to grow into the strong, confident woman that she is today. Laura believes in creating genuine relationships with her students, and giving them the freedom to learn what kind of music that they love, while still learning the techniques that will help them grow as dancers and musicians. The confidence that Laura has comes from her years of teaching dance classes, and seeing how anyone can grow as a dancer. Laura believes in acceptance for everyone, while avoiding any negativity. Laura believes in fostering a healthy learning environment by creating lifelong friendships and connections based around music. She continues to stay connected to her past and present students, and acts as a strong role model and mentor to them. She believes music and dance creates a gateway to building special relationships that last a lifetime.

teaching philosophywritten by Laura Barr
I believe that music and dance is for everyone. I believe that everyone can connect to any song, whether it is through listening, playing, singing, or dancing. I believe that music empowers people to become a better version of themselves, it helps them gain confidence and achieve things that they never expected. I believe that music is a language that connects people of all ages, all backgrounds and all lifestyles. It creates a connection between any two people. I believe that teaching any student, of any age, creates a connection that allows both people to grow. Musicians learn best from one another and by making connections with other musicians, we become better performers in learning new techniques and gaining new opportunities. By understating the determination and discipline that musicians work under, they build courage by achieving the small milestones that allow them to be a better musician. Their confidence grows. Music, and dance tells a story that is understood by anyone, and allows us to empathize with each other. I believe in creating a community where performers of any age can grow into themselves and figure out who they are, while being surrounded by love and support, and being encouraged to perform whenever possible. |
